Irish Open 2017

2017 Irish Open Scrabble Tournament Curracloe - WinnersThe Irish Scrabble Open, organised by the All Ireland Scrabble Association, was held on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th April 2017, in the popular venue of Hotel Curracloe in Wexford.

There was also a New Player section, which gave Scrabble players new to the tournament scene a chance to play a few tournament games, and see what it’s all about.

We held our AGM on Saturday afternoon, during which we remembered our much-loved friend and fellow player, Maura Teegan, who had passed away during the previous week.

There were 14 games of Scrabble over the weekend, along with plenty of food, drink, card games and fun. Many thanks to Hotel Curracloe for treating us like royalty – as always!

The overall winner of the event was Lukeman Olowabi, with Kevin McMahon in 2nd place, and Feargal Weatherhead in 3rd. Congrats to all!

The New Player section consisted of 3 games. There were four players, and they were all made to feel very welcome and greatly enjoyed the afternoon. Congratulations to Breda who came first, and Fiona who came second.
