The 2018 All-Ireland Scrabble Championships was held on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th September 2018 in the Woodlands Hotel and Leisure Centre in Waterford.
There were 14 games played in an open format, with Kevin McMahon taking the prize for 2018 All Ireland Scrabble champion with a very impressive 12.5 wins and a huge spread of 1831. In second place was Nuala O’Rourke with 10 wins and a spread of 729, and in third place was Theresa Scallan with 10 wins and a spread of 520.
The highest B player was Pauline Weatherhead who finished in 8th place, and the highest C player was Jennie Frizelle who finished in 7th place. The high word score went to Pauline Russell, who scored 140 for PARTNERS, and the David & Goliath prize went to Liam Donnelly who won his game against Kevin McMahon.
There was also a 4-game mini-tournament on Sunday afternoon, and we were delighted to see six players coming along to that. The winner of that tournament was Elaine Collins, with Annette Kennedy coming second and Michelle Jackson coming third.
