The 2019 All Ireland Scrabble Tournament took place on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th November in Hotel Curracloe, Wexford. The format was open, with 14 games played over two days, and there was also 4-game mini-tournament on the Sunday afternoon for novice players who have never taken part in a full tournament.
It was a great weekend with the battle for All-Ireland champion coming right down to the last game.
Winners as follows – well done to everyone!
In 1st place, and the 2019 All-Ireland champion, with 12 wins and a huge spread of 2051 was Kevin McMahon.
In 2nd place with 11 wins and a spread of 743 was Feargal Weatherhead.
In 3rd place, also with 11 wins, but with a spread of 737, was Ronan Webb.
In 4th place with 10 wins and a spread of 353 was Liam Donnelly.
The winner of the B group was John Kennedy with 7.5 wins; winner of the C group was Ber McInerney with 8 wins; high word went to Mary Morgan for QUASHED with a score of 141; the David and Goliath prize went to Pauline Russell who won against Kevin McMahon; and the Donal Trump themed spot prize went to Darius Bartlett for CALLOUS.
