The 2024 Waterford Scrabble Tournament took place on 5th & 6th October in a beautiful new venue – Dooley’s Hotel, on the quay.
The event attracted players from across the island of Ireland over the weekend of the 5th and 6th October. While an orange weather warning was in force, and wind and rain beat outside, almost 40 keen wordsmiths gathered in the warmth and comfort of Dooley’s Hotel.
As well as the main event, there was also a smaller 4-game Novice Event on the Sunday. This allowed beginners to the world of competitive Scrabble to learn the ropes and protocols of tournament play, and meet up with other players. This proved extremely popular, and is a feature that is likely to now be a regular side-event for future tournaments.
